5.6 Generating an XBRL Instance Document

An XBRL instance can be generated by clicking the Generate XBRL-XML button or Generate XBRL-CSV button (currently supported by all the EBA taxonomies) in the Output section of the Home ribbon:

or from File - Export:

XBRL-XML output

When generating an XBRL-XML document, the reference date, entity identifier and schema reference will be displayed:

You will have the option to validate the document before the XBRL-XML document is created.  This option is selected by default but can be unselected by clicking on the checkbox for Validate prior to generation. A warning will be given if any validation failures are detected. You can still generate an XBRL instance document with validation failures present.

You have the option to export the XBRL-XML as a zip file. This will also be selected by default and can be unselected by clicking on the checkbox for Compress the output into a zip file.

Please note that for some jurisdictions (for example, France, Belgium and Luxembourg), there is an option to use the OneGate XML Submission Envelope, which is selected by default.

You should select or type the appropriate domain and select the identifier type from the drop-down lists, and enter a valid identifier and e-mail address. All of these fields are mandatory.

The envelope also includes an option to choose the output format: XML (default) or XBRL. These options are presented as radio buttons, meaning that selecting XML output will automatically deselect XBRL output, and vice versa.

XBRL-CSV output

When generating an XBRL-CSV document for any EBA taxonomy which currently supports a new XBRL-CSV format, the reference date, entity identifier and schema reference will be displayed:

You will have the option to validate the document before the XBRL instance document is created.  This option is selected by default but can be unselected by clicking on the checkbox for Validate prior to generation. A warning will be given if any validation failures are detected. You can still generate an XBRL instance document with validation failures present.

Also, you will be prompted not to rename a zip file after it is created:
