2.2 Create a Document

To create a new document, select File > New > New Document:

To the right of the New Document option, Report Authority will list all templates found in the template folder.

Step 1 - Report

New blank report

Use this option to create a new blank report.

Content imported from a Word document

Use this option to import content from an existing Word document.  

Report Authority only supports Word 2007 files or later saved as a “*.docx” or “*.docm” formats.  Report Authority does not currently support all functionality found in Word and as such some reformatting may be required. 

(convert from PDF) - Use this option to convert a PDF version of your report into a Word document. This option will redirect you to a free third-party online conversion tool.

Based on a Template

Use this option to create a new report based on an existing template.  Report Authority will list all templates found in the template folder.  Refer to the section titled “Templates” for a discussion of creating and using templates.

XBRL Output and Taxonomy Selection

Specify whether you wish to create XBRL or iXBRL output and if you do, which taxonomy to use.

Step 2 - Entity

Entity name

Type in the name of the entity – It cannot be empty. 

Country of incorporation 

Select the country of incorporation of the entity.
(This field is shown when iXBRL/XBRL output required has been selected.)

Type of organisation 

Select the type of organisation.  This list is updated to reflect the types of organisations identified in the selected “Country of incorporation”.  (This field is shown when iXBRL/XBRL output required has been selected.)

Identifier scheme URL

This is required for XBRL tagging. This will be automatically populated based on the “Type of organisation” selected, with the exception of “Other” where the appropriate Identifier scheme URL must be supplied.

A scheme URL is just a convenient string of characters that uniquely identifies an organisation that administers a registration scheme - it may link to a relevant part of that organisation’s web site, but it doesn’t have to. This must be a valid URL (web link). 

Entity identifier 

Input the entity identifier relevant for the type of organisation.  This cannot be null, and must conform to the identifier scheme.

Step 3 - Periods

Reporting date

Set the current period closing date.  Reports for the period ending contain an opening and a closing date.  Reports as at contain only balances at particular dates.

Frequency

Set the reporting frequency.  This drives the automatically calculated dates in the table below.

Manually adjust dates

Select this option if the automatically determined dates in the table below are incorrect.  It selected, the dates will become editable in the table below.

Step 4 - DefaultsReport

Monetary unit

Enter the default monetary unit to be used when creating monetary data objects.

Monetary presentation scale

Enter the default monetary scale to be used when creating data objects

Monetary scale of source data

(Only visible if Report Automation is licensed). Enter the scale of the source data.  For example, if extracting data from external data sources, 100, represents 100,000, select Thousands, and Report Authority will correctly scale up the source data.

Both these values can be subsequently edited in the “Report Options” tab in the “Options” box.

Taxonomy Sections / Entry Points

(Only visible if XBRL/iXBRL option in Step 1 is selected and the taxonomy selected contains variations of primary statements - either as separate entry points (South Africa's CIPC) or as different taxonomy sections (ESMA's ESEF).

Select the applicable primary statement variation.
