Taxonomy Migration

You can switch between your licensed taxonomies by clicking Select Taxonomy in the Data Objects & Tagging section on the Home ribbon.

What the migration does

1) Tags

  • For every tag in the document, the system checks:
    • Existence in the new taxonomy (same concept available), and
    • Dimensional validity under the new taxonomy’s hypercubes.
  • Any tag that does not exist or is dimensionally invalid is deleted.

  • A record for each deleted tag is added to the Messages panel.

2) Typed dimension members

  • The system validates each typed dimension member against the new taxonomy.
  • Any typed member that is no longer valid is deleted.
  • No entries are added to the Messages panel for these deletions.

Notes & tips

  • No automatic replacement: The migration does not attempt to map removed tags to substitutes. You should review the Messages panel and re-tag where needed.
  • Save point: Consider saving a copy before migration if you want an easy rollback.
  • Dimensional changes: If your new taxonomy alters table structures (hypercubes), dimensional validity may change even where the base concept still exists.

Troubleshooting

  • Many tags deleted: Check that you selected the correct taxonomy version and that your document targets the right reporting framework.
  • Typed members removed: This indicates the typed domain (pattern or schema) has changed; recreate members that remain valid under the new rules.

On migrating to ESEF, the following form will open asking you to enter your extension taxonomy URL and select the relevant statements.

When switching between extended taxonomies, integrity checks are run to keep your extended taxonomy, calculation relationships, anchors, and dimensions consistent.
