1.5 Updating Taxonomies

DPM Authority reads taxonomy files from two locations:

  • The "Configuration" folder in the Program Files folder; and
  • A folder in the user's roaming profile.

As regulators periodically update XBRL taxonomies, Authority Software ensures these updates are thoroughly parsed, tested, and released as part of our routine software patch process. Updated taxonomy files are included in these patch releases to maintain compatibility and compliance with regulatory standards.

By default, taxonomy files are stored in the Program Files folder alongside the application. Local administrator rights are required to modify any files in this location.

DPM Authority also supports loading taxonomy files from your user’s roaming profile folder. Files in this folder can be modified without needing local administrator access.

This flexibility allows organisations to load updated taxonomy files independently of a new software patch. This can be particularly useful when there are long lead times for testing and deploying new patches within your organisation.

This folder can be located by clicking the "Open" button next to the Local Taxonomy File Location label:

Compatibility Considerations

Not all taxonomy files are compatible with all versions of DPM Authority. If our QA process detects a bug requiring a fix in the DPM Authority client, the updated taxonomy file will only work with the patch version it is officially released in (or later).

Also, a limitation to the user's ability to update their taxonomy in their roaming profile is whether the new taxonomy release requires an update to the DPM Authority client due to new concepts having been introduced in the taxonomy requiring the DPM Authority client's code to be updated to support it.

Please refer to the table in Loaded Taxonomies form to find out which versions of the DPM Authority clients they are compatible with.

How to Load Updated Taxonomy Files

There are two ways to load updated taxonomy files into your roaming profile:

  • offline, by manually copying the files to the folder location described above, or by clicking Load Taxonomy Package… from File → Help:

Here you can load a *.taxd (single) or *.taxds (set) file that you received from Authority Software support.

Please note you must restart DPM Authority after you have loaded your last file in order for the taxonomies to be loaded in the software.

"Load Taxonomy Package..." button is also available in File → Options → General and from the New Document Wizard, provided that Check for taxonomy updates online setting is disabled:

  • online, by using automatic updating via the Check for Taxonomy Updates button:

This will open the Download Taxonomies form where you can select and download the latest available versions of the taxonomies you need for your reporting:

Please note that DPM Authority will automatically restart after loading, in order for the taxonomies to be loaded in the software.

Also, you can check for newer taxonomies available for download on each application launch by ticking Check for taxonomy updates online and selecting Notify about available updates on application launch in File → Options → General.

The Check for Taxonomy Updates... button is also available from the New Document Wizard, provided that Check for taxonomy updates online setting is enabled:
