1.6 Application Options
XML Authority includes an Options section that allows users to configure and save their preferences. You can access the Options tab via the Backstage view.
Automate Reference Fields
Many schemas include difficult to derive reference fields that may combine the value of many elements, add a time stamp and/or sequence numbers. For many of our popular schemas, XML Authority can automate the population of these reference numbers. In these cases the "Automate reference fields" must be enabled.
In the main user interface, reference fields that will be automated will be indicated with a gear icon and display a tooltip when hovered over, as shown below:
Real-time Value Validation
The "Real-time value validation" option is enabled by default. It provides immediate feedback by displaying validation errors directly within the document. If this setting is unticked, validation checks will be disabled and no errors will be shown in the Validation tab. This can be useful when loading significantly large datasets where real-time validation may significantly slow the user interface.
Find Mandatory Elements
When enabled, the "Find mandatory elements" setting highlights all mandatory fields in purple and displays tooltips with the expected values. This can be especially useful when completing complex forms.
Turning this functionality off can be useful when loading significantly large datasets where the mandatory element painting may significantly slow the user interface.
Write Software Version in XML File
By default, XML Authority writes the version number of the software that was used to generate the XML instance as a text string in the instance. This is useful for troubleshooting purposes. Sometimes a regulator will reject an XML instance that contains commented text. If this is the case, you can turn this feature off.
Replace Non-Basic Latin Characters
The "Replace non-basic Latin characters" option replaces all non-ASCII characters—such as accented letters, ideographs, Cyrillic characters, and other special symbols—with standard ASCII characters when exporting to XML. This may be necessary if the regulator you are submitting to does not accept XML instances which contain such characters. This setting is disabled by default.
