6.4 IDES Signing

XML Authority includes an option to apply signing and encryption when preparing and submitting a FATCA XML document via the International Data Exchange Service (IDES). Currently, this requirement applies to the IRS FATCA XML Schema.

Once you have completed schema masking, populated all required data for submission, and cleared all validation errors from the validation panel, you can generate the XML document by selecting Export with Advanced Options.

The Advanced Export Settings form includes a Signing tab, where you can enable the IDES option to apply signing and encryption, and to generate a data package for submission in accordance with the reporting requirements.

Please note that the signing and encryption functionality is licensed separately.

You will need to provide a signing certificate and encryption key certificate with appropriate file extensions, such as .pfx, .p12, .cer, .crt, .der, .p7b, .p7r, or .spc.

In some cases, the AES key and IV are encrypted using the public key of an approving HCTA under Model 1, Option 2. To do this, please tick the Model 1, Option 2 option and provide the required HCTA public key file along with the corresponding HCTA code.

Once all the required information has been provided, you can proceed to generate a .zip archive and an .xml document by clicking the Export and Sign button. The archive will contain the Payload file, the Key file, and the Metadata .xml file, and will be ready for transmission through IDES.

The IRS public key is available for download at https://www.ides-support.com.

If you need to decrypt a .zip archive created for transmission through IDES at any time, click the Decrypt Notification button in the Backstage view to open the form shown below:

The output will include the XML instance document generated during export to XML in XML Authority, along with the decrypted signed Payload .xml file.
