5.1 Validating Reports

DPM Authority can review a completed report by evaluating the list of validation rules incorporated in the XBRL taxonomy. These validation rules will mirror those which will be performed at the respective regulator’s submission gateway.

Validating Reports

Select the Validate Report button in the Processing ribbon, or use Ctrl + Shift + 9 to run validations on the entire report:

Inconsistent duplicate fact errors

In a data point model, an individual fact may appear on more than one table.  In an XBRL instance, it is not possible to determine from which table a duplicate fact originates since duplicate facts contain the exact same XBRL tag. Duplicate facts are only inserted into the XBRL instance once regardless of how many times they appear across the set of tables being submitted. (See Duplicate Facts for more information).

Taxonomy Validation Rules

Any taxonomy validation rules will appear in a pre-grouped table. The table will appear below any inconsistent duplicate fact errors (if they exist).

Columns

There are 7 columns in the table:

  1. Severity
  2. Code
  3. Taxonomy Label
  4. Taxonomy Message
  5. Expression (Addresses)
  6. Expression (Values)
  7. Delta

3 & 4 are sourced directly from the taxonomy. 5 and 6 are calculated by DPM Authority.

Depending on the taxonomy, you may find that some columns contain redundant / duplicated information. To reduce the amount of redundant /duplicated information you can choose to hide columns using the Show/Hide Columns button in the toolbar:

Any columns you choose to hide will be remembered in your user settings and will remain hidden across all reporting unless you choose to once again display it using the same form.

For example, in this case from the EBA taxonomy, the column Taxonomy Message contains a duplication of information found in the "Taxonomy Label" Column:

In this case you may decide to hide the Taxonomy Label column.

However, for the Solvency II taxonomy, the "Taxonomy Label" column provides a valuable description of the rule's purpose, so you might choose to keep it visible:

Filtering

DPM Authority data grids contain powerful filtering functionality that can be used to search for specific data points across all rules. In the example below, DPM Authority will filter the validation results to all those that have failed and contain the data point “*r0080*”.

Exporting of results

As with all DPM Authority data grids, you can export the results in a number of formats including Excel, csv, XML. Click the Export Validation Results button in the Validate section on the Tools ribbon to choose a format and export the list of validations results.
